It has been a year since my last challenge... I have been plotting and planning another for a while now! In the last challenge I tasked myself with painting 30 Paintings in 30 Days. It was tough! Forcing me to think on my feet and compose my pieces quickly! I loved it and I found out that I was able to do more than I thought I could! I'm ready for the next challenge...
In this challenge there are a few areas that I want to push myself in. 1. The Human Form, 2. Skin Tones and 3. Fun!
I thought Mermaids would be just the thing to help me accomplish all of these things!
I have been sketching this last couple of weeks as well as reading up on mermaid folklore and myth as well as some pretty logical explanations to how & where the stories originated and I will share some of my favorite findings in the next few days! I hope you will follow along and feel free to invite your friends to come along on this 30 day journey!
For this first mermaid I used my own form for inspiration... While I was painting in the under-painting for this piece, Elliott came out and saw her and said "are you painting YOU Momma?"! I knew then I had accomplished my goal! He was bummed that I didn't add my pink glasses, but I love how she turned out!
Choosing hair and tail color is always the last thing I do. Like the wood, the face and form speak to me and in the end I choose what they say to...
Adding the scales and freckles to a mermaid is my favorite part as I feel like this is when she comes alive and you can see her personality shine through...
I am looking forward to the next few weeks! Amelia is going into 1st grade and Elliott into PreK, so we will be a busy household! I will be posting another Mermaid tomorrow! See you then!
